Yo La Tengo at the Jefferson Theater
Tomorrow evening, downtown Charlottesville will be hosting Yo La Tengo at the Jefferson Theater. Yo La Tengo released Fade on January 15, the thirteenth studio album in their three-decade career, in addition to dozens of compilations, extended plays, and film scores they have released. Fadewill not disapoint longtime Yo La Tengo fans, letting you “appreciate the complexity of its simplicity. It may trod over some familiar turf…but the relaxed pacing and pleasing melodies belie just how much action is really going on beneath the serene surfaces.”
Yo La Tengo, out of Hoboken, NJ, has seen nearly thirty years of musical success as one of the most esteemed and endeared indie rock bands. In 1984, Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley started Yo La Tengo as husband and wife, releasing their first LP, Ride the Tiger, two years later. With Ira playing guitar, Georgia on drums, and both playing piano and doing vocals, they sought additional members who also shared their love for psychedelic folk-rock and post punk rock. They recorded four more albums with the collaboration of various musicians, hitting their stride with bassist James McNew in 1992. Whether you have been following Yo La Tengo’s musical journey for decades now, or they have been making music longer than you have been alive, this is a show you will not want to miss.
