Summer Interior Design Trends

If you’ve been on the Internet at all over the past few months, you may be familiar with the “coastal grandmother” aesthetic that’s dominating the interior design space. Now that summer 2022 is officially underway, we’re seeing this style, which incorporates light, airy, chic, and timeless elements, make its way to the forefront of Summer 2022 Interior Design Trends. Other buzzwords like Maxilimism, Grandma-chic, and Dakota Johnsons Green Kitchen (if you know, you know) have also risen in popularity over the past few months. Fresh, Vibrant Paint Colors
The reign of agreeable gray is over. Summer is the time to experiment with fun colors like a spunky sage green, a precious pale periwinkle, or a funky Fuschia. If you’re feeling particularly bold, adding a pop of pastel has also been all the rage in the interior design sphere this summer.

 

 

Lots of Nature
This time of year, I find myself gravitating to my local Trader Joe’s to fill every gratuitous vase with only the most summery of flowers. Whether buying them cut, potted, or picked, bringing in lots of nature during the summer season is a surefire way to stay on-trend.

 

 

The Tropics
Imagine stepping into a luscious tropical escape without ever stepping foot outside your door. Maximalist Junglescapes have risen in popularity as millennials and Gen Zers are phasing out of the boring and beige trend and prioritizing bold and Biophilic designs. To really align your home with the trend, use warm-colored and terracotta pots for your plants and set them against linen and cotton fabrics like curtains and throw blankets.

 

 

Blurring the Outdoors with the In
Long gone are the days when materials like wood and stone were solely reserved for outdoor spaces. Recent trends are showing an increase in natural material accents that incorporate leather, stone, and wood into indoor decor.

 

 

Fresh Greens
Nothing livens up a space quite like a few touches of plants and greenery. Head to your local plant nursery (some of my personal favs in Charlottesville, Virginia are Ivy Nursery and Ivy Corner) and pick up some new plant babies to decorate your space. Not only do plants keep the air in your home feeling crisp, but they also effortlessly brighten your space.
