Moving to Charlottesville
Whether you’re moving to Charlottesville for school, for work, to be in a location where a winery sits at every corner (my main motivation), or, like most of us, were charmed by the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and undeniable culture of the city, moving to Charlottesville can be quite a transition. I always like to say that I stumbled upon Charlottesville, and there truly is nothing quite like it that I’ve experienced thus far. In this blog, I’ll be sharing my journey in and around Virginia, from the coast to the city, to landing amongst the mountains in beautiful Charlottesville, Virginia.
As a Virginia Beach native, I grew up minutes from the beach and cherished the days that my friends and I would leave directly from school—bathing suits hidden under our clothes, and head straight to the Oceanfront in whoever’s parent would let us borrow their Jeep Wrangler.
In college, I headed further north to Fairfax, Virginia, an area of immense diversity and culture. Weekends were spent at Korean BBQ and Korean bakeries where I developed a love for jjajangmyeon and boba tea.
That brings us to Charlottesville. To crest a hill in Charlottesville, Virginia means majestical mountain views will greet you with rolling hills abound. Spring brings us Fridays After Five on the Downtown Mall, live music at Potter’s Craft Cider, UVA baseball games, and picnics on the Pippin Hill lawn. Summer means school is out, camps are booked and busy, kids spend hours splashing in the outdoor pools, and bug spray is heavily applied before heading off to the nearest hiking trail.
Fall, Virginia’s finest season, is announced by the changing colors of the leaves as Chiles Peach Orchard offers apple and pumpkin picking and UVA students return for another semester. As winter creeps in, Virginia’s denouement is quiet and cozy. Tasting rooms turn toasty as the fireplaces roar and the warmth from mulled wine brings comfort. If we’re lucky, we’ll see snowball fights on the UVA Lawn and busy holiday shoppers making their rounds Downtown to celebrate the season.
