Major Changes to Charlottesville/UVA’s Corner
I heard a very disturbing story earlier this week and was hoping it was just a rumor but it is not looking good thus far. Originally reported at Cvillain but then discussed more yesterday in the Cville, it sounds like a CVS may possibly coming to UVA’s “Corner” district and replacing some long-standing Corner classics, possibly Plan 9, Higher Grounds, Just Curry, and the Satellite Ballroom (which was just recently given the large responsibility of holding the many musical acts that once entertained us at Starr Hill Music Hall.) The owner of the building is Terry from College Inn who owns much of 2 blocks on the corner including the Plan 9 & Higher Grounds coffee space, Just Curry, and the Satellite Ballroom. All of these businesses will be affected and will close, probably this summer, to be replaced by….. CVS Pharmacy. This is not a rumor, this is a fact. It’s probably too late to voice any objection because the CVS lease has in all likelihood already been signed.
If true, this would be extremely sad. The UVA corner that I once knew and loved as an undergrad is undergoing some disappointing changes.
