Design Trends That Will Be In or Out in 2019
January 1st has become our opportunity for a reboot. Arbitrary as it may be (why not July 12th?), it’s an opportunity to leave behind what’s bad and embrace what’s new and good. When thinking about your ‘overhaul’ don’t forget about your home!
Some predictions about what the home trends will be in 2019:
IN: The return of floral patterns (it will be the pattern to use!)
OUT: Ikat patterns
IN: Rich jewel tones with a bit of an edge – bold indigo, hunter and emerald green, and dark teal are just a few of the hues that will be on trend
OUT: Cool grays
IN: Backsplashes with bold patterns (the clean crisp monochrome kitchen is gone and pops of color return)
OUT: Terrazzo tile
IN: Sustainable, handmade pieces (think rice paper, jute, and clay)
OUT: Less handmade materials like shibori, and mud cloth (think less loud and pronounced and more of a calm influence in our environment)
IN: Four poster beds
OUT: Fiber art (less weave especially in the bedroom)
IN: Boho vibe with a twist (boho is back with a modern twist and curved lines)
OUT: Spaces without color or texture (mixing of styles is coming versus an overly designed room)
IN: Acrylic furniture (acrylic can provide architectural structure without taking up too much visual real estate)
OUT: Copper furniture (move over more natural metals are on the way)
IN: Mixed metal accents (brass, gold or nickel accents mix well with either oil-rubbed bronze or aged iron accents. Metals like silver and pewter can mix well with bronze and black brown metals)
OUT: Overdone brass (too much of anything is never a good thing)
IN: Bold black bathrooms (it’s all about bold, dark, sultry bathroom designs that evoke an indulgent high-end experience)
OUT: Accent walls (single colored walls are making a much bigger impact)
IN: Light wood floors (creating a more airy look and feel)
OUT: Cherry cabinets (painted cabinets in deep blues, grays and black are dominating both modern and traditional kitchen designs)
IN: Not skimping on comfort
OUT: Lacquered furniture (shine doesn’t always equate to pretty)
IN: Passamenterie
OUT: Rose gold
IN: Warmer and darker countertops (marble will still be a classic choice, but we’ll see darker tones and warmer-based stones instead of stark whites and greys)
OUT: Quartz countertops
